As winter sets in here in Australia, the constant questioning of whether your baby is warm enough has begun. With warmish days and colder nights, it's hard to know if you've popped enough layers on.
Wouldn’t it be great if they could straight up tell us if they were too hot or too cold.!
What if I told you that with a little wizardry and mind reading, they can in fact tell us if they're feeling the chill. Jokes, I do enjoy all things magical, but actually it all comes down to simple body language 🥶.
So, what are the top tell tale signs your baby is cold overnight?
Waking regularly past midnight (which is unusual for your baby)
Falling back to sleep easily in your arms
Moving around the cot and generally unsettled
Sleeping with their arms tucked under their body and bum in the air
Feeling cold on the back of their neck or chest
Alright, we have come to the conclusion that baby might be a little chilly at night, what can we do to prevent this?
First of all, check what temperature your babies bedroom drops to at around 4/5am. This is the coldest part of the night.
Secondly, ensure you are using a TOG rated sleeping bag.
Grab your TOG rated guide and see what the recommendations are for the temperature of the room at 4/5am.
Follow the TOG rated guide and either add another layer or purchase another sleeping bag with a higher TOG rating.
AND VOILA!, your baby should go back to sleeping snuggly. Unless there is another reason for your baby waking, but at least you can rule out being too cold as the issue. Troubleshooting is fun eh.!
